What We Were, What We Are, and What We Might Be with Dr. Erin Kelley

Dr. Russell Strickland [00:40:10] Yeah, I think it’s very, very important. We’ve talked a few times on the podcast about the importance of communication and making sure that you can bring some of what you learned from the message that you have into the public space. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve been so I’ve had a blast helping folks with writing their book that goes into public press because you know, that the metaphorical hair down, so to speak. You know, instead of having to be so careful about all of your writing in in in an academic sense, when you’re writing your dissertation now, you can be much more free to communicate with people through through stories and through notes and things like that so that you can get a message across. We’ve had folks that have been, you know, helping parents help their kids succeed. And, yeah, just so many interesting and exciting things. We’ve had a person who was a teacher for a number of years who was able to communicate with current teachers about how they can stay in love with profession instead of feeling like they need to leave after a very few number of years. And those things are important messages for our society. And they don’t just belong in academic research journals, but they belong out there on Amazon or Apple Books or whatever it might be that read so that people who can benefit from that can absorb that message and benefit from it instead of just holding it back in the academic journal that no one outside of you.

Dr. Erin Kelley [00:41:44] Yeah, yeah. Well, and also what you’re doing here on this podcast, you know, you’re getting people and these experts who have all different kinds of these rich, vivid stories to tell. You know, we’re all human. We need to have that kind of connection. But you’re doing this on this podcast. You’re know we’re sharing stories that we’re also rendering advice in a very much needed, nuanced way in this dissertation that so many people up that you’re doing. I mean, what you’re doing with this podcast, I think is fantastic.

Dr. Russell Strickland [00:42:16] Well, I appreciate that. I mean, to me, if I can just help folks to understand that you’re not alone out there in this process. The only one that struggled through this process, everybody struggles through it. But the struggle is worth it because the riches on the other side, the opportunities out there are just so amazing. And and you get to do things that you really want to do that you really enjoy doing. When you have a doctoral degree, you get to write your ticket, so to speak, and whatever it takes to get there, I think it really is worthwhile. And I encourage everybody this has that notion is gone and applied to a doctoral program and enrolled. Keep going. You can do it. You can finish this process.
