Memories and Dissertations

March 21st is Memory Day. Do you ever feel like you just want to forget your dissertation? Here’s how you can make it a memory instead, maybe even a happy one…

Do you sometimes feel like you can’t remember where you put the car keys, why you walked into a room, or your daughter’s phone number?

How do you make your memory better?

There are techniques to practice memory party tricks that might be fun to show off to your friends, like reciting the Declaration of Independence or the lyrics to the latest hit single. But most people are more interested in day-to-day stuff—where you left the car keys, remembering to pick up your pants at the cleaners, or the name of your child’s best friend’s father. The best way to help with this type of recall for most people is to reduce the level of stress in their lives.

And, how do you reduce stress?

Rest!

Take breaks!

Studies have shown that people are more productive and have better recall when they take regular breaks and get enough rest. Sounds easy, but be honest…do you ever feel like you can actually just relax without feeling guilty? Isn’t there always a cloud hanging over your head in the form of your frustratingly unfinished dissertation?

It doesn’t have to be that way! You just need to set up a realistic, attainable plan with a schedule that will allow you to make steady, sustainable progress on your dissertation. You can (and should!) even build in time to kick back and relax occasionally. I only ask my students at Dissertation Done to dedicate 10-15 hours per week to their studies…and they finish at least a year or two faster than their classmates!

Once you’re making progress on your dissertation, I promise you’ll feel less guilty next time you take a little break, or even a whole evening off with family and friends. Who knows? Perhaps the stress you felt about completing that dissertation will be something you can finally forget!

If you’re ready to cut through the confusion, reduce stress, and start to get your life back, all while actually getting your dissertation done, click hereto schedule a quick, 15-minute chat with me to see if you’re a good fit for our Fast Track Your Dissertation Coaching Program. If you are, then I’ll invite you to join the fastest group of dissertation students out there and help you to reach graduation a good year or two faster than you would on your own.
